NSPCC: Children & Young People Online Safety

Children and young people spend a lot of time online – it can be a great way for them to socialise, explore and have fun. But children do also face risks like cyberbullying or seeing content that's inappropriate.

The NSPCC has teamed up with O2 to give you everything you need to know about keeping children safe online.

Whether you're unsure about what happens online or are up to speed with new technology, it's important that you talk to your child about staying safe.

It may feel daunting, but you don't need to be an expert on the internet. Understanding what children do online and the risks they face will help you keep your child safe online.

Are You Driving in France? New Rules on Vehicle Emissions

If you're planning to drive to or through France via Paris, Lyon or Grenoble, beware, new rules mean you're likely to need to display a vehicle emissions sticker on your windscreen, while older cars could be banned altogether from certain areas at certain times.

The three French cities have introduced the 'Crit'Air' scheme, which is designed to curb pollution and requires most vehicles driving within designated 'environmental zones' to display a window sticker (known as a vignette).

The stickers cost €4.80 (around £4.13), including postage to the UK. There are six categories of sticker, which are colour-coded according to how much vehicles pollute and range from the cleanest (Crit'Air 1), for electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles, to the most polluting (Crit'Air 6).

Ashford Parks to Receive Lottery Funding

Victoria Park
Two Ashford parks have been picked to receive extra cash from the National Lottery.

Victoria Park and Watercress Fields, both in Ashford, have been earmarked for £3.2 million funding.

Victoria Park is a formal park with mature ornamental trees, and a small area of woodland. Some of the trees were planted in the early part of the 20th century to commemorate local towns people and members of the royal family. A local art dealer donated the large fountain in one corner of the park to the town of Ashford. It was originally designed for the Great Exhibition and resided on the Olantigh Estate at Wye. There is a small pond at the bottom of the park surrounded by a rocky garden.

MOD Estates - Fly Tipping

Fly tipping (the illegal dumping of waste) is a criminal offence, damages the environment, is anti-social, costs the MOD valuable resources to remove, and can be dangerous (such as hazardous waste or heavy items that could injure children). It is in everyone’s interest to dispose of waste correctly, and to help the authorities find and prosecute people who do not.

Act responsibly
If you have waste to dispose of, please act responsibly and take it to a local authority waste or recycling centre. Dumping items like furniture and fridges on your own patch or elsewhere is not only unsightly for your neighbours, it could be dangerous for local children. In addition, once an area gets a reputation for being a dumping site, it often encourages others to add to the pile.

Report it
If you witness any fly tipping activity in your area please report it to the relevant authorities – such as the Unit, Police or Local Authority (for nearby public areas). It will help if you make a note of the vehicle type, registration number or any other relevant information. However be careful; don’t challenge the fly tippers and don’t place yourself in harms way to gather evidence.

Get it removed
If the waste has been dumped in an SFA area, please report it to your relevant maintenance helpdesk who will remove it at MOD expense.
